Jazz meets the classics!

In February of 1924 Gershwin premiered his RHAPSODY in BLUE. His energised tunes took the world by storm, and soon other composers were following his lead and incorporating elements of jazz and Broadway

“Rhapsody in Blue” takes you to the jazz age in New York! You’ll be immersed in an evocative musical picture of the age of prohibition, flappers and wild night life!

Ravel’s “Bolero” invites you into a world of sensuality in old Spain. The famous drum beat introduces each instrument as the music builds to a wild climax and an astonishing finale.

Shostakovich lived in the dark times of Stalinist Russia. His funny and sarcastic tunes were derived from jazz and the circus. You’ll chuckle at the wry humour of his 9th Symphony.

Leonard Bernstein infuses classical forms with the energy of the 20th century. You’ll love the sparkle of his glittering “Candide” overture.

This flamboyant music demands fabulous players. I’ve assembled a band of young guns: virtuosic players who cross between classical and jazz with panache and attitude. You’ll love the slinkiness of the saxophone, the drawl of the clarinet, the shriek of the piccolo, and the brazen trumpet solos. All this on top of driving piano and throbbing drums.

This is the most evocative, tuneful and enjoyable classical music meeting jazz and greeting the 20th century!

Book now, enjoy the pre-booking discount, tell your friends, and come along for the fun ride!

My personal guarantee: there are NO boring bits in this concert!

Cheers from Carl Rafferty
